Doing business in Dublin

Dublin City had about 593,000 residents at the 2022 census, and the CSO counted around 91,600 active enterprises across County Dublin in 2020. Global technology firms fill the Docklands, known as Silicon Docks, funds and financial service companies work from the IFSC, and Sandyford Business District and Citywest host offices, distribution and light industry on the southern and western edges of the city.

Companies are registered with the Companies Registration Office and file VAT and corporation tax through Revenue Online Service. Many Dublin firms are part of a group based abroad, so they invoice in dollars or sterling, recharge costs to related companies and report to a parent on its timetable. Skyline Nexus ERP keeps the Irish books in euros while handling those foreign-currency documents.

Modules Dublin businesses start with

ICT companies and global tech subsidiaries

The Irish subsidiaries of overseas tech groups in the Docklands often need their own local books alongside the parent's systems. Skyline Nexus ERP keeps the Irish company's ledger in euros, records intercompany recharges to the parent in dollars at the rate entered on the invoice, and tags costs to departments through cost centres, so the local statutory accounts and the group reporting pack start from the same figures.

Trial balance, profit and loss and balance sheet export to Excel or PDF for the parent's month-end deadline. Dublin's home-grown start-ups, from Dogpatch Labs to Sandyford, use the same system differently: projects with milestones for client work, the CRM for leads and proposals, and invoices to EU customers carrying the reverse charge wording and the customer's VAT number.

Financial services and funds at the IFSC

Around the funds industry at the IFSC work administrators, corporate service providers, fintechs and advisory firms that invoice many clients each month. Skyline Nexus ERP is for the service firm's own books, not for fund accounting or NAV calculation: it issues fee invoices, keeps a ledger and statement of account per client, and groups open items in the AR Aging Report so overdue fees are chased early.

Audit readiness matters to every IFSC firm. Skyline Nexus records changes with user, time and old and new values, routes larger manual journals for approval and locks closed periods. The Excel audit pack gives the external auditor the trial balance, ledgers, sales, purchases and VAT summary in one file, and Treasury holds bank reconciliations for each account.

Pharma, medtech and medical supplies

Dublin's hospitals and the pharma and medtech plants around the county rely on distributors of medical supplies, consumables and equipment. Skyline Nexus ERP holds their stock per warehouse and by lot, the Stock Expiry Report shows which batches must ship first, and sales orders, delivery notes and credit notes follow each consignment from order to invoice, with stock valued by FIFO.

Firms that service equipment at hospitals and plants use the CMMS in Skyline Nexus: service requests from the customer site, work orders with engineer, parts and downtime, PPM schedules for planned visits and warranty claims against manufacturers. Quality and regulatory files stay in the customer's or manufacturer's own systems; the ERP keeps stock, service and the accounts together.

Getting started from Dublin

A Dublin company moving to Skyline Nexus ERP imports its chart of accounts, customers and suppliers with VAT numbers and open balances, and any stock per warehouse from spreadsheet templates. GL opening balances are entered on a balancing screen. Subsidiaries of overseas groups usually switch at a month end that matches the parent's reporting calendar.

The free trial lets a Dublin team post a dollar recharge, a client fee run or a week of distribution with real data before deciding. Support is by WhatsApp, phone and e-mail in English; Skyline Nexus ERP has no office in Dublin. Large corporates facing the 2028 eInvoicing step, and groups with several Irish companies, should book a demo first.

  1. Create the business in EUR, add your Irish VAT number and set VAT rates of 23%, 13.5% and 9%.
  2. Enable USD and GBP for invoices to related companies and customers abroad, with today's rates.
  3. Import contacts with VAT numbers and open balances, and stock by lot for each warehouse.
  4. Generate a Peppol BIS file for one invoice and check with us how receiving will work before November 2028.

Questions from Dublin businesses

Can the Irish subsidiary of a US tech company in Dublin use Skyline Nexus ERP?

Yes. Skyline Nexus ERP keeps the Irish subsidiary's ledger in euros, records intercompany recharges to the US parent in dollars at an entered rate, and tags costs by department through cost centres. Does Skyline Nexus ERP do fund accounting for IFSC firms?

Can a Dublin medical supplies distributor track lots and expiry dates in Skyline Nexus ERP?

Yes. Skyline Nexus ERP holds a Dublin distributor's stock per warehouse and by lot, and the Stock Expiry Report shows which batches should ship first. Can Skyline Nexus ERP invoice UK customers in sterling?

Yes. How long does it take to try Skyline Nexus ERP with real Dublin data?

A Dublin team can try Skyline Nexus ERP with real data within the free trial by importing a short list of contacts with VAT numbers, a few products and the chart of accounts, then posting one invoice, one purchase and one bank reconciliation.
