Lagos at a glance
Official figures for Lagos are being verified; we only publish numbers with a named source.
Lagos is Nigeria's commercial engine. Banks, fintechs and professional firms sit on Victoria Island and increasingly in Eko Atlantic City, Ikeja combines the state government, the airport and a dense trading economy, Lekki has grown around its free zone and deep sea port, and the Apapa port area handles containers for importers nationwide.
A Lagos company registers with the Corporate Affairs Commission, files VAT and company income tax with the Nigeria Revenue Service, formerly FIRS, and deals with the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service for PAYE and state levies. Networking runs through the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Skyline Nexus ERP keeps the trading records behind those filings in one general ledger.
Victoria Island and the new towers of Eko Atlantic hold the head offices of banks, insurers and payment companies, and around them works a crowd of smaller firms: fintech start-ups, agency banking operators, brokers, consultants and software vendors. They grow quickly, often open a second company for a new licence, and need accounts that an auditor or investor can follow.
Skyline Nexus ERP keeps each company as a separate business with its own chart of accounts and fiscal periods, and the Consolidation screens combine them with intercompany balances eliminated. Every journal change lands in the Audit Trail with old and new values, and the Audit Pack gathers a calendar year's trial balance, journals, sales, purchases and VAT summary into a single Excel file.
Trade in Lagos runs from open markets and wholesale clusters to supermarkets in Ikeja and the malls of Lekki, with FMCG distributors moving goods from warehouses near Apapa to retailers across the state. A distributor with several depots, delivery vans and a team of sales reps needs stock per depot, a credit limit per customer and a quick answer to who owes what.
Skyline Nexus ERP treats each depot or shop as a business location with its own stock, invoice numbering and tills, and every customer can carry a credit limit and pay terms. The Sales Representative Report shows results per rep, the Customer Aging Report sorts unpaid invoices by age, and the Location Wise Stock Report tells each depot manager what is on the shelf.
Apapa and Tin Can Island ports, the newer Lekki Deep Sea Port and the Lekki Free Zone make Lagos a gateway for imported goods and for the industries growing near the Dangote refinery at Ibeju-Lekki. Clearing agents, hauliers and importers juggle container delays, dollar-priced purchases and stock held in free-zone or bonded locations as well as in city warehouses.
Skyline Nexus ERP lets a Lagos importer record supplier invoices in US dollars at the rate it enters while the ledger stays in naira, and mark a location as a free zone or bonded store. Stock transfers to city warehouses carry the carrier and shipping charges, and CMMS work orders with planned maintenance keep trucks, forklifts and generators running.
Compliance
Nigeria runs a clearance e-invoicing system (NRS Merchant Buyer Solution). Large taxpayers since Nov 2025 and medium taxpayers since Jul 2026 must obtain an IRN, cryptographic stamp and QR from NRS before an invoice is valid — Nexus cannot do this yet. Businesses under NGN 1bn turnover may issue standard VAT invoices (TIN, RC number, 7.5% VAT) from Nexus until 1 Jul 2027.
VAT 7.5%; all taxable persons need a Tax ID; small companies (<= NGN 100m) VAT-exempt
Invoice must show TIN, CAC number, number, date, buyer, gross and VAT
NRS MBS clearance (IRN/CSID/QR) mandatory: large Nov 2025, medium Jul 2026, small Jul 2027
Nexus has no MBS connector — only usable below NGN 1bn turnover today
Keep records 6 years; penalty NGN 200,000 + 100% tax for uncleared supplies
Checked 2026-10-10. Nigeria: full compliance guide
As of October 2026 VAT in Nigeria is 7.5% under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, in force since 1 January 2026, and small companies with turnover up to NGN 100m are VAT-exempt. Nigeria also runs clearance e-invoicing through the NRS Merchant Buyer Solution: large taxpayers with NGN 5bn or more joined in November 2025, medium taxpayers in July 2026, and businesses under NGN 1bn follow on 1 July 2027.
Skyline Nexus ERP has no NRS/MBS e-invoicing connector, so it cannot obtain the IRN, stamp and QR code that a cleared invoice needs. It is usable today only by businesses under NGN 1bn turnover, until 1 July 2027; larger Lagos businesses should join our waitlist. Below that line, invoices show your TIN, CAC number, the buyer and the VAT, and records are kept for 6 years.
A Lagos business under NGN 1bn turnover can move to Skyline Nexus ERP with the files it already keeps: customer and supplier lists with balances and credit limits, products, opening stock per depot and the chart of accounts, all imported from CSV or Excel templates. Ledger opening balances are keyed into one screen that saves only when total debits equal total credits.
A free trial account works in naira across the modules on this page, so a team can test a depot transfer, a credit sale and a VAT report before committing. Support is handled remotely in English by WhatsApp, phone and e-mail, as there is no local office in Nigeria. Distributors with many depots, and any business close to the turnover line, should book a demo to plan the timing.
No. A Lagos distributor above NGN 1bn turnover is already inside the NRS e-invoicing mandate, and Skyline Nexus ERP has no NRS/MBS connector to obtain the IRN and QR code each invoice needs. Skyline Nexus is usable today only by businesses under NGN 1bn turnover, until 1 July 2027. Larger businesses should join our waitlist for the connector.
A Lagos business with turnover under NGN 1bn enters NRS clearance e-invoicing on 1 July 2027, with enforcement planned from the first quarter of 2028. Until then, such a business may issue standard VAT invoices showing its TIN, CAC number and 7.5% VAT, which Skyline Nexus ERP produces. Companies with turnover up to NGN 100m are VAT-exempt.
Yes, for a Lagos FMCG distributor under NGN 1bn turnover. Skyline Nexus ERP keeps stock per depot, sets a credit limit and pay terms for every customer, and reports results per sales rep and unpaid invoices by age. Depot transfers record the carrier and shipping charges.
A Victoria Island fintech under NGN 1bn turnover can run its books in Skyline Nexus ERP, with a separate business for each licensed company and Consolidation to combine them. The Audit Trail records every journal change, fiscal periods can be locked after reporting, and the Audit Pack gives investors and auditors one Excel workbook.
Yes. Skyline Nexus ERP lets a Lagos importer enter a supplier invoice in US dollars, euros or yuan at an exchange rate typed in by hand, and the purchase shows the foreign amounts. The ledger is kept in naira, so the accountant books exchange differences on unpaid dollar balances as a journal at period end.
A Lagos business moves into Skyline Nexus ERP through import templates for customers and suppliers with balances, credit limits and pay terms, products, opening stock and the chart of accounts, in CSV or Excel. Ledger opening balances are entered on a single screen that must balance, and bank statements can be imported for reconciliation in Treasury.
The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service administers PAYE, personal income tax and the consumption tax on hotels, restaurants and event centres in Lagos, while VAT, company income tax and e-invoicing sit with the Nigeria Revenue Service. In Skyline Nexus ERP a Lagos restaurant can add the state consumption tax as its own tax rate beside VAT.
Skyline Nexus ERP is a cloud service run by Skyline Industrial Solution. We have no office in Lagos; support is by WhatsApp, phone and e-mail.
