How the calculation works
Adding VAT multiplies the net price by (1 + rate). Removing VAT divides the gross price by (1 + rate). Subtracting the rate from the gross price gives the wrong answer: 19% of 119 is 22.61, but the VAT included in 119 at 19% is 19.00. Amounts are rounded to two decimals at the end.
Frequently asked questions
What is the GST rate in Jordan?
The standard GST rate in Jordan is 16%. There is no reduced rate: almost everything taxable is charged at the standard rate.
How do I add GST to a net price?
Multiply the net price by 1.16 (1 plus the 16% standard rate). For example, JOD 100.000 × 1.16 = JOD 116.000, of which JOD 16.000 is GST.
How do I work out the GST included in a gross price?
Divide the gross price by 1.16. For example, JOD 116.000 ÷ 1.16 = JOD 100.000 net, so the GST included is JOD 16.000. Taking 16% of the gross price would overstate the tax.
When does a business have to register for GST in Jordan?
Registration once 12-month sales reach JOD 30,000 for service providers or JOD 75,000 for goods suppliers (JOD 10,000 for makers of goods under Special Sales Tax)
