Johannesburg, South Africa
Skyline Nexus ERP runs VAT invoicing, multi-store stock, project costing and plant maintenance for Johannesburg businesses from one general ledger.
Advisory firms in Sandton, mining contractors with remote sites and retailers from Rosebank to Midrand keep their numbers in the same system.
Plans from $19 per month, plus VAT where it applies · Prices shown in USD; we do not publish a South Africa price list yet.
Johannesburg at a glance
The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality counted about 4.8 million people in the 2022 census, and its economy reaches well beyond the old CBD. Banks and listed groups cluster in Sandton and Rosebank, Midrand has become a corridor of offices and warehouses around Mall of Africa, and the City Deep and Kempton Park belt moves freight between the Transnet terminal and O.R. Tambo.
Most firms here register with the CIPC, deal with SARS for VAT and income tax, and look for peers at the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry or for funding support at SEDFA. The admin load grows with every branch, store or site added. Skyline Nexus ERP gives each location its own stock and invoice numbering while all of them post to one general ledger.
Sandton's towers house JSE-listed groups, banks and insurers, and each depends on a market of smaller firms around it: advisory practices, fund administrators, fintech start-ups, property funds and consulting engineers. Those firms often run several companies under one owner, report monthly to a board and face an auditor who wants the trial balance, journals and registers without delay.
For that work Skyline Nexus ERP offers a complete report set under its Fiscal Authority menu: a trial balance in opening, movement and closing view, an income statement compared with the previous year, the balance sheet, cash flow and changes in equity. Budgets per cost centre feed Budget vs Actual, and the Audit Trail shows who approved, posted or reversed each journal.
Johannesburg grew on gold, and mining houses still keep head offices and technical teams in the city, surrounded by engineering consultancies, drilling contractors, equipment suppliers and specialist maintenance firms. Their work is organised as contracts at remote sites, their fleets and plant are capital-heavy, and every safety incident has to be recorded, investigated and closed out with evidence.
Skyline Nexus ERP runs each site contract as a project with tasks, milestones, material requisitions and a budget, and can post project material issues straight to the ledger. Plant and vehicles sit in Asset Management, where units-of-production depreciation suits mining equipment, the CMMS module plans preventive maintenance, and the EHS module logs incidents and follows each corrective action to closure.
From Sandton City to Mall of Africa, Johannesburg's shopping centres host national chains and independent retailers side by side, while wholesalers along the City Deep belt supply spaza shops, pharmacies and restaurants across Gauteng. A retailer with stores in several malls and a central warehouse needs stock per store, consistent pricing and a daily view of the cash in every till.
Skyline Nexus ERP gives every store its own location, stock, invoice numbering and cash registers, and a selling price group can be set per location when mall stores and an outlet store charge differently. Stock transfers move goods from the warehouse to each store, the Register Report checks each till, and Trending Products shows which lines to reorder first.
Compliance
South Africa has no e-invoicing or QR mandate yet. Nexus invoices that carry the VAT Act s20 content (TAX INVOICE title, both VAT numbers above R5,000, 15% VAT in ZAR) are valid tax invoices today. Keep an eye on SARS's VAT Modernisation consultation (mandate expected after 2028).
VAT 15%; compulsory registration above R2.3m (from 1 Apr 2026)
Full tax invoice above R5,000 needs customer VAT number; abridged below
No e-invoicing, QR or certified software required today
Keep records 5 years; offshore storage needs SARS authorisation
Skyline's own SaaS sales: register as FSES above R2.3m unless B2B-only
Checked 2026-10-10.
As of October 2026 South African VAT stays at 15%: the increase announced in 2025 was withdrawn on 24 April 2025 and the 2026 Budget kept the rate. Registration is compulsory above R2.3m of turnover, up from R1m since 1 April 2026. A full tax invoice above R5,000 needs the customer's VAT number, an abridged invoice suffices below that, and PDF invoices from Skyline Nexus ERP are accepted.
There is no e-invoicing mandate yet. SARS published a VAT Modernisation consultation paper on 17 August 2026 proposing a digital VAT model with e-invoicing and e-reporting; comments close on 16 October 2026, and a phased mandate is expected only after 2028. Records are kept for 5 years, and storing them outside South Africa needs SARS authorisation, so ask us before you sign up.
A Johannesburg business moving to Skyline Nexus ERP brings its customer and supplier lists, products, opening stock and chart of accounts across through CSV or Excel templates, then enters the general ledger opening balances on a single screen that must balance before it saves. Bank statements import as CSV, TXT or Excel files for reconciliation in the Treasury module.
Settle the SARS records-storage question with us first, then use the free trial to post real test transactions in rand across the modules on this page. All support is remote and in English, by WhatsApp, phone or e-mail, with no Gauteng branch to visit. Retail chains, mining contractors and groups with several companies should book a demo so locations and entities are planned properly.
No. As of October 2026 South Africa has no e-invoicing mandate, so a Johannesburg company may issue PDF tax invoices. SARS is consulting on a digital VAT model, with comments due by 16 October 2026 and a phased mandate expected after 2028. Skyline Nexus ERP invoices that carry the VAT Act content are valid tax invoices today.
Only with SARS authorisation. South African records must be kept for 5 years, and storing them outside the country requires permission from SARS. Skyline Nexus ERP is a cloud service, so a Johannesburg business should ask us before signing up; we will explain where the data is held so that you can decide and apply if needed.
Yes. Skyline Nexus ERP sets up each store as a business location with its own stock, cash registers, invoice numbering and price group, so a chain with branches in Sandton City and Mall of Africa sees performance per store. A central warehouse supplies the stores through stock transfers, and every sale posts to the same ledger.
Yes. A Johannesburg mining contractor can register drills, trucks and generators in Skyline Nexus ERP, depreciate them by units of production and plan preventive maintenance through CMMS work orders. Work permits and warranty claims sit on each machine's record, the EHS module logs incidents, and each site contract is costed as a project.
Yes, within limits. Skyline Nexus ERP lets a Johannesburg importer record a supplier invoice in US dollars, euros or another currency at an exchange rate entered by hand, while sales are invoiced in rand. The ledger is kept in rand, so exchange differences on open balances at period end are booked by the accountant as a journal.
Yes. In Skyline Nexus ERP each subsidiary is a separate business, and a Sandton holding company groups them under Consolidation with ownership percentages and a method per member. A consolidation run snapshots each member's trial balance, translates it into the group currency and eliminates intercompany balances before the group reports are approved.
Before starting the Skyline Nexus ERP free trial, a Johannesburg business should ask us about SARS authorisation for records kept abroad. After that, a customer list, a product file and a recent trial balance make the trial realistic, because contacts, products and opening balances can be imported straight away and test invoices posted in rand.
Skyline Nexus ERP is a cloud service run by Skyline Industrial Solution. We have no office in Johannesburg; support is by WhatsApp, phone and e-mail.
