Doing business in Sharjah

The Emirate of Sharjah counted about 2.1 million residents in its 2025 census, and the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry reported more than 76,000 memberships in 2025 (WAM). The Industrial Areas hold workshops, packaging plants and warehouses; SAIF Zone and Hamriyah Free Zone host manufacturers and re-exporters; Al Majaz and the dense residential districts keep shops and clinics busy.

Mainland licences come from the Sharjah Economic Development Department, free-zone licences from SAIF Zone or Hamriyah, and VAT and Corporate Tax go to the Federal Tax Authority. A typical Sharjah owner runs a factory or warehouse in an industrial area and sells through a trading company or a few shops. Skyline Nexus ERP links production, stock and sales so that cost follows the goods.

Modules Sharjah businesses start with

Manufacturing in the industrial areas and free zones

Light manufacturing is a mainstay of Sharjah: plastics, furniture, steel fabrication, printing and food processing, much of it in family-run plants that grew from a single workshop. Owners often struggle to cost a product accurately, because material prices move, scrap goes unrecorded and machine breakdowns stay invisible until the overtime bill arrives.

Skyline Nexus ERP's MES module defines bills of materials, routings, work centres and production work orders, recording what each job consumed and produced. Raw materials and finished goods are held per location with FIFO costing, and the CMMS module schedules preventive maintenance on presses, CNC machines and ovens. A Sharjah plant can flag its free-zone site and filter reports by that location.

Wholesale and retail trade

Sharjah's traders buy in bulk, often through Dubai or straight from overseas suppliers, store in industrial-area warehouses and sell to shops across the Northern Emirates. Retailers in the residential districts and in malls such as Sahara Centre compete on price and need fast checkouts, accurate stock and tight control of cash.

Skyline Nexus ERP handles both sides. Wholesalers get customer credit limits, statements and AR ageing, sales and purchase imports for bulk loading, and stock per warehouse. Shops get a POS register per branch with its own invoice numbering, selling-price groups and register reports. Every sale posts to the ledger with its Sharjah location, so wholesale and retail margins are reported apart.

Logistics through the airport and ports

Sharjah International Airport, the free zone beside it and the emirate's ports support freight forwarders, cargo agents and re-exporters who move goods for traders in Sharjah and well beyond. Margins are thin, documents are many and customers pay in several currencies, so a forwarder needs each job's revenue and cost long before the month ends.

In Skyline Nexus ERP each large consignment can run as a project, so freight, handling and duty costs sit against the revenue they produced. Bonded warehouses are flagged as such, customers abroad are invoiced in their own currency at a rate you set with AED values underneath, and forklifts and trucks get planned maintenance through CMMS.

Compliance

What applies in United Arab Emirates

UAE VAT is 5% and the TRN has 15 digits. Tax invoices must show amounts and VAT in AED; English is accepted. Peppol e-invoicing (PINT AE) through an Accredited Service Provider becomes mandatory on 1 Jan 2027 for revenue ≥ AED 50m (appoint an ASP by 30 Oct 2026) and on 1 Jul 2027 for everyone else (appoint by 31 Mar 2027). B2C is out of scope. Nexus prints compliant bilingual tax invoices, but cannot yet send PINT AE e-invoices.

  • VAT 5% standard; 0% exports; exempt for some financial services and residential property

  • TRN: 15 digits, starting with 1 and ending with 03; the e-invoicing TIN is its first 10 digits

  • Full tax invoice needed when the buyer is VAT-registered and the amount exceeds AED 10,000

  • Show VAT and the gross total in AED, with the Central Bank exchange rate, on foreign-currency invoices

  • Reverse charge (electronic devices, gold, oil and gas, metal scrap): print the statement and Art. 48 reference

  • Issue within 14 days of supply; keep records 5 years (real estate 15)

  • No QR code required

  • E-invoicing: ASP by 30 Oct 2026 and live 1 Jan 2027 (≥ AED 50m); ASP by 31 Mar 2027 and live 1 Jul 2027 (others)

  • Penalties: AED 5,000 per month for not implementing; AED 100 per missing e-invoice (max 5,000 per month)

  • Nexus: no PINT AE output and no ASP connection yet; use the ASP's portal in the meantime

Compliance for a Sharjah business

Sharjah businesses follow federal UAE rules: 5% VAT, a 15-digit TRN, a full tax invoice for VAT-registered buyers above AED 10,000, VAT shown in AED and invoices issued within 14 days. English invoices are accepted. Corporate Tax is 9%, and free-zone qualifying income may be taxed at 0% if the conditions are met. Records are kept 5 years, or 15 for real estate.

As of October 2026, e-invoicing through an Accredited Service Provider becomes mandatory on 1 January 2027 for revenue of AED 50 million or more, and on 1 July 2027 for everyone else, with ASPs to be appointed by 30 October 2026 and 31 March 2027. Skyline Nexus ERP issues bilingual tax invoices; it cannot yet generate PINT AE files or hand them to an ASP.

Getting started from Sharjah

A Sharjah manufacturer should load raw materials, finished goods and opening stock per site first, then bills of materials, then customers and suppliers with balances. Skyline Nexus ERP imports these from spreadsheet templates and lets you preview and revert sales and purchase imports, which helps when years of trading history sit in spreadsheets.

In the free trial, run one production order from material issue to finished goods and a sale, then check the stock valuation. Support is by WhatsApp, phone and e-mail in English, without a local office. Plants with complex routings and traders with several warehouses across the Northern Emirates should book a demo first.

  1. Create locations for each Sharjah factory, warehouse and shop, flagging SAIF Zone or Hamriyah sites.
  2. Import raw materials, finished goods and opening stock.
  3. Build bills of materials and routings for your best-selling products.
  4. Check your revenue band and agree an ASP route before your e-invoicing date.

Questions from Sharjah businesses

Does Skyline Nexus ERP have production planning for a Sharjah factory?

Yes. A furniture, plastics or print shop in Sharjah can describe each product once as a bill of materials with its routing, then release production work orders to the right work centre in the MES module of Skyline Nexus ERP. Issued materials and finished quantities are booked against the order, so the material used by each batch is visible the day it is finished.

Can a Sharjah wholesaler set credit limits for customers?

Yes. Each customer record in Skyline Nexus ERP can carry a credit limit and pay term, imported with the contact list or entered by hand. A Sharjah wholesaler then follows balances in the Customer Ledger, the Statement of Account and the ageing report, with buckets from current to over 90 days.

Is UAE e-invoicing available in Skyline Nexus ERP for Sharjah companies?

Not yet. As of October 2026, Skyline Nexus ERP prints bilingual UAE tax invoices but has no PINT AE output and no Accredited Service Provider connection. Sharjah companies with revenue of AED 50 million or more go live on 1 January 2027, others on 1 July 2027, and would use their provider's portal until a connector exists.

What VAT invoice rules apply to a Sharjah trading company?

A Sharjah trading company charges 5% VAT, shows its 15-digit TRN, issues a full tax invoice when the buyer is VAT-registered and the amount exceeds AED 10,000, and issues invoices within 14 days of supply. VAT and the gross total must appear in AED. No QR code is required in the UAE.

Can Sharjah invoices be bilingual English and Arabic?

Yes. English tax invoices are accepted in the UAE and the FTA may request an Arabic translation, so many Sharjah businesses choose a bilingual layout. Skyline Nexus ERP lets each business location pick its own layouts for POS receipts and full tax invoices, and the interface itself runs in English or Arabic.

Can a Sharjah forwarder invoice an overseas customer in US dollars?

A Sharjah forwarder can set an invoice currency and exchange rate on each sale in Skyline Nexus ERP, so an overseas customer sees dollar amounts. The ledger and VAT stay in AED, as the rules require, and exchange rates are entered manually rather than downloaded from a bank.

How does a Sharjah business move its stock records into Skyline Nexus ERP?

A Sharjah business imports its products with the product template, then opening stock per warehouse with the opening-stock template, both from spreadsheet files. Skyline Nexus ERP values the stock with FIFO from that point, and the Opening and Closing Stock Report confirms that quantities and values match the old records.
