What an invoice must show
A full tax invoice must show:
- e-Fatura mandatory if gross sales reached TRY 3 million in 2022 or any later year (TRY 500,000 for e-commerce sellers and intermediaries), plus listed sectors (e.g. EPDK licensees, ÖTV list III goods)
- e-Arşiv: taxpayers outside e-Fatura had to issue invoices over TRY 3,000 incl. tax as e-Arşiv in 2025; from 1 Jan 2026 all such invoices regardless of amount (simple-method and business-account taxpayers: TRY 3,000 limit until 31 Dec 2026, all from 1 Jan 2027)
E-invoicing
Clearance-style e-document system run by GİB: e-Fatura (B2B between registered users) above the TRY 3m sales threshold and for listed sectors; e-Arşiv for other invoices, now required regardless of amount since 1 Jan 2026 (1 Jan 2027 for simple-method taxpayers)
Recent changes
e-Arşiv threshold lowered to TRY 3,000 for 2025 and removed from 1 Jan 2026 (VUK Communiqué 573, OG 12 Nov 2024); Communiqué 589 (OG 31 Dec 2025) gave simple-method and business-account taxpayers until 1 Jan 2027. Rates unchanged 2024-2026
How the calculation works
Adding VAT multiplies the net price by (1 + rate). Removing VAT divides the gross price by (1 + rate). Subtracting the rate from the gross price gives the wrong answer: 19% of 119 is 22.61, but the VAT included in 119 at 19% is 19.00. Amounts are rounded to two decimals at the end.
Frequently asked questions
What is the VAT rate in Türkiye?
The standard VAT rate in Türkiye is 20%. Other rates of 10% and 1% apply to the goods and services listed in the table on this page.
How do I add VAT to a net price?
Multiply the net price by 1.20 (1 plus the 20% standard rate). For example, TRY 100.00 × 1.20 = TRY 120.00, of which TRY 20.00 is VAT.
How do I work out the VAT included in a gross price?
Divide the gross price by 1.20. For example, TRY 120.00 ÷ 1.20 = TRY 100.00 net, so the VAT included is TRY 20.00. Taking 20% of the gross price would overstate the tax.
When does a business have to register for VAT in Türkiye?
No general turnover threshold: businesses carrying on taxable activity register for KDV
How often are VAT returns filed in Türkiye?
Monthly KDV returns, input VAT offset against output VAT
