Doing business in Riyadh

Riyadh is home to about 6.9 million people (GASTAT 2022 census) and to every ministry, which shapes who trades here. Banks, consultancies and head offices cluster around King Abdullah Financial District and Olaya; Al Malaz keeps older trading houses and clinics; Al Sulay and the MODON industrial cities hold workshops, warehouses and MEP contractors.

A Riyadh business registers its commercial record through the Saudi Business Center, joins the Riyadh Chamber and files VAT and zakat with ZATCA. The pain is rarely registration; it is keeping Arabic tax invoices, branch stock, payroll and the ledger in step once the company outgrows one shop or one contract. Once auto-posting is switched on, Skyline Nexus ERP posts each document to the general ledger as it is saved, with branch and cost centre on every journal line.

Modules Riyadh businesses start with

Government suppliers and facilities-management contractors

Serving ministries and agencies in Riyadh means long contracts, milestone billing and strict handover paperwork. A facilities-management contractor may run several maintenance contracts across government buildings, each with its own scope, service levels and retention. Finance needs to see, contract by contract, what has been billed, what labour and materials have cost, and whether the margin still matches the tender.

Skyline Nexus ERP keeps each engagement as a project with tasks, milestones, budgets and the contract record, while the CMMS module turns client requests into work orders with permits and planned preventive maintenance. Material issued to a project can post to the ledger, and Budget vs Actual flags overspend early. Because each journal line carries a project and a cost centre, profit is visible per contract, not only per company.

Financial firms and holding companies around KAFD

The financial district concentrates banks, investment firms, advisory practices and the holding companies of Riyadh family groups. Their accounting is less about stock and more about control: who approved a journal, which entity owns which balance, and whether the books will survive an external audit. Foreign-invested firms licensed by MISA also carry investor reporting duties that need a register of their own.

Skyline Nexus ERP routes manual journals above an approval threshold through submit, approve and post steps, and its Audit Trail records every change with user, old and new values. Periods can be soft-closed or locked. Group companies kept as separate businesses can be consolidated with intercompany eliminations, and the MISA/FDI area holds an investor register, journal tagging, the MISA report and the quarterly FDI survey.

Hospitals and clinic chains

Healthcare in the capital ranges from King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Prince Sultan Military Medical City to private groups running several Riyadh hospitals and fast-growing clinic chains. Behind the wards sit the same back-office problems: biomedical equipment that needs calendar inspections, chillers and lifts that fail at the worst moment, and departments that must each show their own cost.

In Skyline Nexus ERP the CMMS module logs maintenance requests, turns them into work orders, schedules preventive maintenance per asset and tracks warranty claims against suppliers. Asset Management keeps the register and runs monthly depreciation. The HCM module processes payroll with GOSI contributions and WPS files for Mudad, and Cost Center Analysis gives each Riyadh clinic or department its own income and expense view.

Compliance

What applies in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia: 15% VAT. Invoices need Arabic, a ZATCA QR code and, under Phase 2, clearance (B2B) or reporting within 24 hours (B2C) through Fatoora. Nexus supports ZATCA Phase 2.

  • VAT 15%. Your VAT number has 15 digits and starts and ends with 3.

  • Tax invoice for business buyers; simplified tax invoice for consumers and for sales under SAR 1,000.

  • Invoice details must be in Arabic. Another language may appear as a translation.

  • Every invoice and note carries the ZATCA QR code. Nexus generates it.

  • Phase 2: Nexus signs the XML and sends B2B invoices for clearance and B2C invoices for reporting within 24 hours.

  • Wave 25: businesses with VAT revenue over SAR 187,500 must connect by 1 February 2027.

  • Correct a filed invoice with a credit or debit note that gives the reason. Filed invoices cannot be edited.

  • Keep records for at least 6 years, in Arabic, stored in or accessible from Saudi Arabia.

Compliance for a Riyadh business

Every VAT-registered business in Riyadh charges 15% VAT and issues Arabic invoices carrying a ZATCA QR code; the VAT number has 15 digits and starts and ends with 3. Business buyers get a tax invoice, consumers and sales under SAR 1,000 a simplified one. Under Phase 2, standard invoices are cleared and simplified ones reported within 24 hours. As of October 2026, Wave 25 firms with VAT revenue over SAR 187,500 must integrate by 1 February 2027.

Skyline Nexus ERP handles Phase 2 from its own settings screen: compliance and production CSID onboarding, XML signing, clearance, reporting and the QR on every document. A filed invoice is frozen and corrected only by a credit or debit note that gives the reason. Records must be kept for at least 6 years, and the Audit Pack export hands a Riyadh accountant the ledger, VAT summary and documents in one workbook.

Getting started from Riyadh

Migration is mostly imports. Skyline Nexus ERP reads spreadsheet files for products, opening stock, contacts with opening balances, the chart of accounts, assets and employees, and the GL Opening Balances screen will not save until debits equal credits. Riyadh companies usually cut over at the start of a VAT quarter so the first return from the new system covers a clean period.

The free trial lets you load real data and run a full sale, purchase and payroll cycle before you commit. Support is by WhatsApp, phone and e-mail in English; there is no local office. A single shop can start alone, while a hospital group, a ministry contractor with many live projects or a holding company should book a demo so the chart of accounts and cost centres are designed first.

  1. Check your ZATCA wave from your VAT revenue and generate the compliance CSID before your integration date.
  2. Create one business location per Riyadh branch, each with its own invoice scheme and Arabic layout.
  3. Import contacts, products and opening stock, then enter balanced GL opening balances.
  4. Switch on auto-posting for sales, purchases, payments and payroll, then run Data Verification after the first week.

Questions from Riyadh businesses

Which ZATCA wave applies to a Riyadh business with VAT revenue just over SAR 187,500?

A business whose VAT revenue exceeded SAR 187,500 in 2022, 2023, 2024 or 2025 falls into Wave 25, with 1 February 2027 as the integration deadline as of October 2026. Businesses above SAR 375,000 were already in Wave 24. Skyline Nexus ERP covers both groups through the same ZATCA settings screen, where the compliance check and production CSID are completed before the first cleared invoice.

Does Skyline Nexus ERP handle biomedical maintenance for a Riyadh hospital group?

Skyline Nexus ERP includes a CMMS module with maintenance requests, work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, permits and warranty claims, plus Asset Management for the equipment register and depreciation. A Riyadh hospital group can run each facility as a location and each department as a cost centre. Skyline Nexus is not a patient records system; it runs engineering, finance and payroll alongside clinical software.

Can a foreign-owned company in KAFD prepare its MISA reporting in Skyline Nexus ERP?

Yes. Skyline Nexus ERP has a MISA/FDI area with an investor register, tagging of journals, a MISA report and the quarterly FDI survey, so a foreign-invested company in the Riyadh financial district prepares those figures from the same ledger it uses for VAT and zakat.

Is Skyline Nexus ERP available in Arabic for a Riyadh accountant?

Skyline Nexus ERP runs in English and Arabic, with translations for many other languages. Every account carries an English and an Arabic name, and the Arabic name is shown when the interface is in Arabic. Invoices print in Arabic with an optional translation, as ZATCA requires, and the ledger runs in Saudi riyals, with foreign-currency invoices converted at a rate you enter.

How does a Riyadh company move its balances into Skyline Nexus ERP?

Skyline Nexus ERP imports products, opening stock, contacts with opening balances, the chart of accounts, budgets, assets and employees from spreadsheet templates. General ledger opening balances are entered on a screen that refuses to save unless debits equal credits, and customer and supplier balances go in per contact so each sub-ledger ties to its control account.

Does payroll in Skyline Nexus ERP cover GOSI and Mudad for Riyadh employers?

The HCM module in Skyline Nexus ERP processes payroll with salary structures, GOSI contributions, end-of-service reports and WPS bank files for Mudad submissions. When Auto-post Payroll Transactions is on, each approved payroll posts salary expense, salaries payable and GOSI payable to the ledger. Attendance, shifts and leave sit in the same module for a Riyadh employer.

What happens if a cleared invoice from a Riyadh branch has a mistake?

Once Skyline Nexus ERP has cleared or reported an invoice with ZATCA, that invoice cannot be edited or deleted. The correction is a credit note or debit note that references the original and states the reason; the note is signed, carries its own QR code and is filed the same way.
