Munich at a glance
Munich has about 1.5 million inhabitants and, according to the IHK für München und Oberbayern, around 139,000 member companies based in the city. The BMW plant anchors a wide supplier base, software and AI firms cluster in Maxvorstadt, Schwabing and near the Garching research campus, insurers and their service partners fill office districts across the city, and Messestadt Riem hosts the trade fairs.
For a Munich Mittelstand firm the administrative strain sits between operations and the books. Bills of material live in one file, project budgets in another, and the Finanzamt still expects accurate Umsatzsteuer returns through ELSTER. Skyline Nexus ERP replaces that patchwork with one database in which a production order, a project cost and a customer invoice all end up as entries in the same general ledger.
Automotive and mobility suppliers around Munich build to drawings that change often, so the bill of materials and the routing are the documents everything else depends on. The MES module in Skyline Nexus ERP keeps plants, work centres, routings and BOMs together and plans each production run as a work order against them, so engineering changes are made once rather than in three separate files.
Stock is held per location, so a plant, an external warehouse and a service van each show their own quantities, and transfers between them are documented with a carrier and a status. Skyline Nexus values inventory by FIFO, the IFRS-compatible method, and the FIFO/LIFO valuation report shows what each lot cost. Purchases post to the ledger as they are saved once auto-posting is switched on.
Software houses, IT consultancies and AI start-ups in Munich sell projects, licences and support to customers all over Europe. Skyline Nexus ERP runs each customer engagement as a project with tasks, milestones, a budget and a contract, and journal lines carry the project and a cost centre, so the margin of every engagement shows up in the reports rather than in a founder's spreadsheet.
Many Munich tech firms invoice customers in other EU countries, where the reverse charge applies and both VAT IDs belong on the invoice. Skyline Nexus stores the customer's tax number on the contact, can issue an invoice in another currency at an entered rate while the books stay in euros, and its CRM follows leads, follow-ups and proposals from the first call to the signed contract.
Insurance and finance are among Munich's defining industries, and around the large insurers work brokers, claims service providers, actuarial consultancies and IT suppliers. For these firms Skyline Nexus ERP offers a double-entry ledger with cost centres per business line, budgets per fiscal year compared with actual spending, and a CRM for client relationships, so management figures no longer depend on one person's workbook.
Cash control is the other half of the job. The Treasury module of Skyline Nexus holds bank accounts, scheduled and bulk supplier payments with hold and release, petty cash and expense claims, and every payment run can go through an approval step. Bank statements are imported as CSV or XLSX files and matched in the bank reconciliation until the variance reaches zero.
Compliance
Germany: invoices must carry the § 14 UStG mandatory details; Nexus generates XRechnung/ZUGFeRD e-invoices (EN 16931) for the 2027/2028 e-invoicing obligation. Nexus has no TSE, so use a separate certified till for cash-register sales.
Every invoice needs your Steuernummer or USt-IdNr., a sequential invoice number, the supply date and VAT per rate (§ 14 Abs. 4 UStG).
Invoices up to EUR 250 gross may be simplified (Kleinbetragsrechnung, § 33 UStDV) – not for intra-EU supplies or reverse charge.
Kleinunternehmer (§ 19 UStG): previous year ≤ EUR 25,000 and current year ≤ EUR 100,000 – no VAT, plus a note on the exemption.
Reverse charge invoices must state "Steuerschuldnerschaft des Leistungsempfängers"; intra-EU supplies need both VAT IDs and an exemption note.
E-invoices: all businesses must receive them since 2025; issuing is mandatory from 2027 (turnover > EUR 800,000) and from 2028 for everyone. Nexus generates XRechnung and ZUGFeRD.
Public-sector customers need XRechnung with a Leitweg-ID – enter it on the contact.
Keep invoices for 8 years (§ 14b UStG, § 147 AO); keep the e-invoice XML unaltered.
GiroCode payment QR is optional and can be switched on per invoice layout. Cash registers need a TSE (§ 146a AO) – Nexus does not provide one.
Checked 2026-10-03. Germany: full compliance guide
As of October 2026, invoices issued from Munich follow § 14 UStG: tax number or VAT ID, a running invoice number, the date of supply and the tax shown separately for each rate, normally 19% or the reduced 7%. Invoices up to EUR 250 gross may use the simplified form, except for intra-EU supplies and reverse charge. Retention is 8 years for invoices and 10 years for books and annual accounts.
Germany's e-invoicing obligation arrives in stages. Receiving has been compulsory for all businesses since 1 January 2025; from 1 January 2027 a company whose previous-year turnover exceeded EUR 800,000 must issue domestic B2B invoices electronically, and from 1 January 2028 everyone must. Skyline Nexus ERP generates XRechnung 3.0 and ZUGFeRD 2.3 files, and a Bavarian authority's Leitweg-ID is kept on its contact record.
A Munich company usually migrates at the start of a fiscal year or quarter. Products, opening stock and contacts come in through spreadsheet templates, the chart of accounts can be imported as CSV or XLSX, and GL opening balances are keyed into a screen that refuses to save until debits equal credits. Fixed assets have their own import, and manufacturers then build BOMs on top of the product list.
The free trial gives access to the modules on this page, so a production planner, a project lead and a bookkeeper can each test their part with real data. Support is by WhatsApp, phone and e-mail in English, and Skyline Nexus ERP has no Munich office. Firms with several plants, or financial groups with several companies, should book a demo first so that locations and cost centres are designed properly.
Yes. Skyline Nexus ERP includes an MES module with plants, work centres, routings, bills of materials and production work orders. A Munich automotive supplier keeps the BOM next to the stock and purchasing data, values inventory by FIFO and sees the result in the same general ledger that produces the trial balance and the profit and loss statement.
Yes. Skyline Nexus ERP lets a Munich software company run each customer engagement as a project with milestones, a budget and a contract, and tag costs and revenue to it. Invoices to customers elsewhere in the EU carry both VAT IDs for the reverse charge, and an invoice can be issued in another currency while the ledger stays in euros.
The deadline depends on turnover. As of October 2026, a Munich supplier whose previous-year turnover was above EUR 800,000 must issue domestic B2B e-invoices from 1 January 2027; every other business follows from 1 January 2028, and all have had to receive e-invoices since 1 January 2025. Skyline Nexus ERP generates XRechnung and ZUGFeRD files for both cases.
Yes. Skyline Nexus ERP generates XRechnung 3.0 files in UBL or CII from a sale once E-invoicing (Germany) is enabled, using the Leitweg-ID stored on the public-sector contact. The file is downloaded from the sale and submitted through the channel the City of Munich specifies; Skyline Nexus prepares the file but does not transmit it.
No. German cash registers need a TSE under § 146a AO, and Skyline Nexus ERP does not provide one, so a shop or café keeps a TSE-equipped till for cash sales. Invoices to companies, purchasing, stock and the general ledger run in Skyline Nexus, and the till's daily takings are posted there as a summary.
Skyline Nexus ERP is available in English and Arabic, with interface translations for many other languages including German; untranslated screens fall back to English. A company keeps its books in EUR and can issue an invoice in another currency, such as Swiss francs, at an exchange rate entered on the document, while the ledger itself stays in euros.
The free trial of Skyline Nexus ERP lets a Munich company test accounting, stock, purchasing, sales, projects and production work orders with its own data. Import templates for products, opening stock and contacts shorten the set-up, and the trial is the right moment to check that BOMs, project margins and the trial balance behave as the finance team expects.
