Hamburg at a glance
Hamburg is a city-state of about 1.9 million people whose economy still turns on the port. Terminal operators, forwarders and shipping firms work around the harbour, warehouses and haulage yards line the Billbrook industrial area, import houses keep offices in the Speicherstadt and HafenCity, and Altona mixes media agencies with small manufacturers. Companies register in the Handelsregister and belong to the Handelskammer Hamburg.
The typical Hamburg trading or logistics company buys in dollars, sells in euros, holds goods in more than one place and invoices customers in several EU countries. Each habit creates paperwork: exchange rates, reverse charge notes, stock counts per site. Skyline Nexus ERP records them on the source documents, so the general ledger and the Umsatzsteuer figures filed through ELSTER come from the same entries.
Importers who store goods under customs supervision need to know what is bonded and what has been released. In Skyline Nexus ERP every warehouse is a business location that can be flagged as Free Zone or Bonded, and releasing goods becomes a stock transfer to a normal location with a reference, carrier and status. Customs and logistics modules exist too, while declarations remain with the broker.
Forwarders and haulage firms in Hamburg sell services, and their margin depends on knowing what each customer contract costs. Skyline Nexus runs a contract as a project with a budget, and fuel, subcontracted transport and warehouse labour carry its cost centre. Trucks, forklifts and reach stackers sit in the asset register with depreciation, and the CMMS covers their requests, work orders and PPM schedules.
Publishers, broadcasters and advertising agencies make Hamburg one of Germany's media cities, and their work arrives as campaigns and retainers with large external costs for production, freelancers and media. Skyline Nexus ERP sets up each campaign as a project with a budget and a contract, and every supplier invoice is tagged to it, so over-servicing shows up before the final invoice rather than after it.
New business runs through the CRM in Skyline Nexus: leads, follow-ups, call logs, campaigns and proposals. When a client signs, the invoice posts to the ledger with revenue split by category, so creative fees, production and third-party costs can be told apart in the profit and loss. Freelancer invoices that arrive as XRechnung or ZUGFeRD files can be previewed on the purchase screen.
A Hamburg wholesaler might run a main warehouse in Billbrook, an overflow store across the Elbe and a showroom in the city. Skyline Nexus ERP keeps stock per location and reports it per location, by category and by brand, with ageing and slow-moving item reports that show where capital is tied up. Each location can have its own invoice numbering and default price group.
Cost of goods sold is calculated by FIFO, the IFRS-compatible method, from the actual purchase lot consumed, and posts together with the sale once auto-posting is on. Purchases from overseas suppliers are entered in their own currency at the day's rate. Reverse charge and intra-EU invoices need statutory wording, so an export-heavy house keeps a separate invoice layout for those customers.
Compliance
Germany: invoices must carry the § 14 UStG mandatory details; Nexus generates XRechnung/ZUGFeRD e-invoices (EN 16931) for the 2027/2028 e-invoicing obligation. Nexus has no TSE, so use a separate certified till for cash-register sales.
Every invoice needs your Steuernummer or USt-IdNr., a sequential invoice number, the supply date and VAT per rate (§ 14 Abs. 4 UStG).
Invoices up to EUR 250 gross may be simplified (Kleinbetragsrechnung, § 33 UStDV) – not for intra-EU supplies or reverse charge.
Kleinunternehmer (§ 19 UStG): previous year ≤ EUR 25,000 and current year ≤ EUR 100,000 – no VAT, plus a note on the exemption.
Reverse charge invoices must state "Steuerschuldnerschaft des Leistungsempfängers"; intra-EU supplies need both VAT IDs and an exemption note.
E-invoices: all businesses must receive them since 2025; issuing is mandatory from 2027 (turnover > EUR 800,000) and from 2028 for everyone. Nexus generates XRechnung and ZUGFeRD.
Public-sector customers need XRechnung with a Leitweg-ID – enter it on the contact.
Keep invoices for 8 years (§ 14b UStG, § 147 AO); keep the e-invoice XML unaltered.
GiroCode payment QR is optional and can be switched on per invoice layout. Cash registers need a TSE (§ 146a AO) – Nexus does not provide one.

For a trading house in Hamburg, the invoice rules of § 14 UStG matter as much as the rate. As of October 2026 the rates are 19% and 7%, intra-EU deliveries are zero-rated with both VAT IDs and an exemption note, and reverse charge invoices must say Steuerschuldnerschaft des Leistungsempfängers. Invoices are kept for 8 years and the XML of an e-invoice must be stored unaltered.
E-invoicing in Germany is phased. Since 1 January 2025 every business must be able to receive e-invoices; from 1 January 2027 companies with prior-year turnover above EUR 800,000 must issue them for domestic B2B sales, and from 1 January 2028 all companies must. Skyline Nexus ERP generates XRechnung 3.0 and ZUGFeRD 2.3 files from a sale or credit note once the German e-invoicing setting is enabled.
Migration for a Hamburg wholesaler starts with the item master: products and opening stock are imported per warehouse from spreadsheet templates, followed by customers and suppliers with their open balances. Agencies begin with clients and running projects instead. The chart of accounts can be imported, GL opening balances are entered on a screen that only saves when it balances, and bank statements arrive as CSV or XLSX files.
During the free trial a Hamburg team can set up its warehouses, flag a bonded location and post a test import in dollars before deciding. Support is by WhatsApp, phone and e-mail in English; Skyline Nexus ERP has no office in Hamburg. Groups with several companies or a large number of warehouses should book a demo so the location structure is agreed first.
Yes. In Skyline Nexus ERP each warehouse is a business location, and a location can be marked as Free Zone or Bonded. A Hamburg importer therefore sees bonded and duty-paid stock separately, and moves goods between them with a documented stock transfer. The customs declarations themselves stay with the importer's broker, and Skyline Nexus holds the stock and the accounts.
Skyline Nexus ERP suits a Hamburg advertising agency that wants campaign budgets and client margins in its accounts. Each campaign is a project with a budget and a contract, supplier and freelancer invoices are tagged to it, and the CRM tracks pitches and proposals. Revenue can be split by category, so fees and pass-through costs are reported separately.
Skyline Nexus ERP holds stock per location and offers location-wise stock, valuation, movement, ageing and slow-moving item reports. A wholesaler can give each warehouse its own invoice numbering and price group, transfer goods between sites with a status trail, and value stock by FIFO. Users can be limited to the locations they work in.
Skyline Nexus ERP generates XRechnung 3.0, in UBL or CII syntax, and ZUGFeRD 2.3 in the EN 16931 profile, which is a PDF with the XML embedded. Hamburg public bodies usually ask for XRechnung with a Leitweg-ID, while many private customers prefer ZUGFeRD because the PDF stays readable. Skyline Nexus produces the file; delivery is by the customer's chosen channel.
A Hamburg trading company has to issue domestic B2B e-invoices from 1 January 2027 only if its turnover in the previous year exceeded EUR 800,000; otherwise the obligation starts on 1 January 2028. As of October 2026 every company must already be able to receive e-invoices. Skyline Nexus ERP covers the issuing side with XRechnung and ZUGFeRD files.
Yes. Skyline Nexus ERP is available in English and Arabic, with interface translations for many other languages including German, and each user chooses a language. Screens that are not yet translated fall back to English. The ledger is kept in euros, and purchases or sales in dollars are recorded at the rate entered on each document.
A Hamburg haulage firm imports customers and suppliers with opening balances, its fleet and equipment through the asset import, and its chart of accounts from a CSV or XLSX file. GL opening balances are then entered on a balancing screen. Skyline Nexus ERP has no journal import, so historical journals stay in the old system for reference.
