QuickBooks alternative in Canada: the short answer

A QuickBooks alternative makes sense in Canada when you need inventory, a point of sale and purchasing in one system, or when the post-promotion price no longer fits. As of 10 October 2026 QuickBooks Online Canada lists EasyStart at CAD 30 and Plus at CAD 110 per month on monthly billing. Skyline Nexus ERP Solo, a full ERP for one user, lists at CAD 25 per month before tax.

This is the switch guide. It sets out what each QuickBooks Online plan costs and includes according to Intuit's Canadian pricing page and the offer feed that page loads, what you give up by leaving, and when staying, or choosing a free tool, is the sound choice. Our guide on affordable accounting software in Canada surveys many vendors; this page goes deep on one. Every figure was read on 10 October 2026; confirm it on the vendor's page before you decide.

QuickBooks Online Canada prices as of 10 October 2026

The regular monthly prices below are the base prices in Intuit's Canadian offer feed, in Canadian dollars; user counts and features are the wording of the pricing page. The page text we retrieved does not say whether prices include GST or HST, so treat them as before tax.

  • Lite: CAD 20 per month, 1 user, no accountant access, 2 bank connections, 5 report templates; aimed at solo and freelance work.
  • EasyStart: CAD 30 per month, or CAD 324 a year on annual billing; 1 user, accountant access, unlimited bank connections, 30 or more report templates; inventory is not listed for this plan. The feed names this plan Simple Start.
  • Essentials: CAD 70 per month, or CAD 756 a year; mentioned only in the page's FAQ, for up to 3 users.
  • Plus: CAD 110 per month, or CAD 1,188 a year; 5 users; adds inventory tracking, project profitability, budgets, multi-currency, and classes and locations up to 40.
  • Advanced: CAD 220 per month, or CAD 2,376 a year; 25 users; adds a custom report builder, workflow automation and revenue recognition.
  • Payroll: a paid monthly add-on in every plan; the feed lists Payroll Core at CAD 30 per month plus CAD 5 per employee.
  • Terms on the page: a 30-day free trial with no credit card, month-to-month with no long-term contract, an accountant seat at no extra charge except on Lite, and sales tax that is calculated and tracked so you can file with the CRA.

QuickBooks price increase: what Intuit's page says today

Searches for a QuickBooks price increase usually follow the end of an introductory discount or a list-price change. On 10 October 2026 Intuit's Canadian pricing page carried no notice of a coming list-price change, and its footer says pricing is subject to change without notice. We make no statement about past or future increases; prices were checked on 10 October 2026.

What the page does show is a discount cliff. The banner advertises 90% off QuickBooks plus Payroll for 6 months on the Buy Now route, and the offer feed shows EasyStart at CAD 3 and Plus at CAD 11 for those months, after which the regular price applies. The FAQ adds that large discounts apply to Buy Now rather than the free trial, and that annual billing typically saves about 10% but generally does not combine with a Buy Now promotion. These are time-limited terms seen on 10 October 2026; this page does no arithmetic on them. Budget with the regular price, because that is what month 7 costs.

What QuickBooks Online does that Skyline Nexus ERP does not

Before you switch, know what you would give up. Intuit describes these on its Canadian pricing page on 10 October 2026; Skyline Nexus ERP does not offer them today.

  • Bank connections: QuickBooks lists 2 on Lite and unlimited on EasyStart, so transactions arrive automatically. Skyline Nexus ERP has no bank feeds; you import a statement file and reconcile from it, while bank feeds are rolled out market by market.
  • Canadian payroll: QuickBooks sells it as a monthly add-on. Skyline Nexus ERP's payroll is built for Saudi Arabia; it does not run Canadian payroll, T4 slips or Records of Employment, and local payroll is rolled out country by country.
  • Accountant access: QuickBooks includes an accountant seat on EasyStart and above. Skyline Nexus ERP Solo is one user; your accountant works from exported reports.
  • Users: Plus includes 5 and Advanced 25. Solo is one user and one location; the Core plan covers 5 users.
  • Tax filing: QuickBooks says its sales tax is tracked so you can file with the CRA. Skyline Nexus ERP prepares the figures, but you enter them on the CRA or Revenu Quebec portal yourself; there is no e-filing link.
  • Workflow automation and revenue recognition in Advanced; Skyline Nexus ERP has no automated revenue-recognition schedule.

Who should not switch from QuickBooks

A change of accounting software costs time even when the subscription is lower. In these situations QuickBooks, or a free tool, is the better fit, and we would rather say so.

  • You run Canadian payroll in QuickBooks and want pay runs, T4s and ROEs from the same system.
  • Your bookkeeping depends on bank feeds bringing in every transaction daily.
  • Your accountant or bookkeeper works inside your QuickBooks file and prices their service on that workflow; ask them before you move.
  • You sell services only, send a few invoices a month and hold no stock: Lite at CAD 20 costs less than Skyline Nexus ERP Solo, and a free invoicing tool may cost nothing.
  • You need several users now: compare QuickBooks Plus with Skyline Nexus ERP Core, not with Solo.

Xero vs QuickBooks in Canada: the two lists side by side

Many readers weigh Xero against QuickBooks first, so here are both Canadian lists as published on 10 October 2026. Xero's Canadian page states that its prices are in Canadian dollars and exclude applicable taxes.

Xero Canada lists Starter at CAD 25 per month with quotes and 20 invoices, 5 bills, bank reconciliation and a 30-day cash flow forecast; Standard at CAD 60, adding bill automation, budgets and auto-reconciliation; and Premium at CAD 80, adding multiple currencies and a 180-day forecast. Expense claims and project tracking are optional add-ons from CAD 5 and CAD 10 a month. New customers were offered 80% off for the first 3 months, then the regular price; a 30-day free trial is also offered.

QuickBooks Canada lists EasyStart at CAD 30 for 1 user and Plus at CAD 110 for 5 users with inventory and multi-currency. For a one-person service business, Xero Starter and QuickBooks EasyStart sit close together; the choice turns on invoice volume and how your accountant works. Once you hold stock, QuickBooks Plus is the plan to price, and that is where an ERP enters the comparison.

Bookkeeping software in Canada: free tools, Zoho Books and Odoo

Free accounting software for a small business in Canada exists as a category: free tiers of paid products, invoice-only plans and open-source packages. They suit a sole proprietor with low volume and no stock. Check three things: the revenue or invoice cap, support for GST/HST and QST, and how you export your data when you outgrow the tier.

One example with published Canadian terms: Zoho Books Free costs CAD 0 for 1 user plus 1 accountant while revenue for the financial year does not exceed CAD 50,000, with up to 1,000 invoices a year and generation of provincial and federal tax returns and combined GST/QST returns. Zoho's paid Canadian plans list Standard at CAD 20 per month, or CAD 15 billed annually, for 3 users with bank feeds, and Professional at CAD 35, or CAD 30 billed annually, for 5 users with inventory and multi-currency, exclusive of local taxes. The lowest plan on Intuit's Canadian pricing page was Lite at CAD 20.

Odoo pricing in Canada: when we loaded Odoo's pricing page from our server with a Canadian language setting on 10 October 2026, it showed a euro list: Standard EUR 31.10 per user per month on monthly billing or EUR 24.90 on annual billing, discounted in the first year for the users first ordered, and One App Free at no charge for a single app. We saw no Canadian-dollar price, so we quote none; open Odoo's page from Canada to see the list shown to you, and multiply by the number of users.

GST, HST, PST and QST: what any replacement must handle

Sales tax is the first test for any QuickBooks alternative. According to the Canada Revenue Agency's rate table on 10 October 2026, the GST is 5% in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Quebec, Saskatchewan and the territories; the HST is 13% in Ontario, 14% in Nova Scotia since 1 April 2025, and 15% in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island. Provincial tax is added in British Columbia (7%), Manitoba (7%), Saskatchewan (6%) and Quebec (QST 9.975%). The rate depends on the place of supply, and zero-rated supplies such as basic groceries carry 0% everywhere.

Your software therefore needs single GST and HST rates, combined groups such as GST plus QST, a zero rate that still shows on the return, and a report that separates tax collected from tax paid for each period. Selling into several provinces means choosing the rate per invoice line.

In Skyline Nexus ERP you create each rate under Settings, Tax Rates, combine them in a tax group such as GST 5% plus QST 9.975%, and pick the rate or group on each line. The Tax Report and VAT Return form give the tax-exclusive bases and the tax for a date range and location, ready to enter on the CRA or Revenu Quebec portal. Rates have no effective-date history, so a rate change means adding a new rate from that date.

Annual cost: QuickBooks Online and Skyline Nexus ERP Solo at regular prices

Twelve paid months, regular price against regular price, before GST or HST, prices as of 10 October 2026. Scope differs: EasyStart has bank connections and an accountant seat but no listed inventory; Plus has 5 users, inventory and multi-currency; Skyline Nexus ERP Solo has inventory, a point of sale, purchasing, CRM and a double-entry ledger for one user and one location, with statement import instead of bank feeds.

  • QuickBooks Online EasyStart: 12 x CAD 30 = CAD 360 on monthly billing, or CAD 324 on annual billing.
  • QuickBooks Online Plus: 12 x CAD 110 = CAD 1,320 on monthly billing, or CAD 1,188 on annual billing.
  • QuickBooks Online Lite: 12 x CAD 20 = CAD 240, CAD 60 less than Skyline Nexus ERP Solo on monthly billing; Lite has no accountant access and no inventory.
  • Skyline Nexus ERP Solo: 12 x CAD 25 = CAD 300 on monthly billing, CAD 60 less than EasyStart and CAD 1,020 less than Plus; on annual billing CAD 250, which is CAD 74 less than EasyStart and CAD 938 less than Plus.
  • Promotions, stated separately and not compared with list prices: QuickBooks advertised 90% off for 6 months on Buy Now on 10 October 2026. The Skyline Nexus ERP launch offer, until 31 January 2027, gives 50% off the first 3 paid months on monthly billing, or 15 months for the annual price, after a free first month of 30 days with no card.

Switching from QuickBooks without losing records

Switch at a period end, ideally a fiscal year end or a GST/HST filing date. Before you cancel QuickBooks, export customer and supplier lists, products with quantities and costs, open invoices and bills, the trial balance at the cut-over date, and the reports you must keep for the CRA's record-keeping rules, in a format you can open without a subscription.

Then run one filing period in both systems and compare the tax figures before you file from the new one.

  • Create the fiscal year and its periods in Skyline Nexus ERP first; nothing posts without an open period.
  • Import the chart of accounts from CSV or Excel, then set up tax rates and tax groups.
  • Import products, opening stock and contacts with their opening balances from spreadsheets.
  • Enter the GL opening balances as a balanced set on the Opening Balances screen and check that the Difference reads zero.
  • Import your first bank statement file and reconcile it to the statement ending balance.

Skyline Nexus ERP Solo for a Canadian business

Skyline Nexus ERP Solo is the plan for one user and one business location, with the same modules as Core: a double-entry general ledger that posts sales, purchases, payments and depreciation automatically once the auto-post switches are on; invoicing with credit and debit notes; purchasing; inventory per location with FIFO costing and valuation, movement and ageing reports; a point of sale with cash registers; CRM; and tax rates and groups for GST, HST, PST and QST with a tax report. Foreign-currency invoices, for example in US dollars, use a rate you enter on a single base-currency ledger. Trial balance, income statement, balance sheet and cash flow come from the ledger, and an Audit Pack Excel workbook gives your accountant the main reports and ledgers.

Three limits to accept: bank reconciliation works from imported statement files, Canadian payroll is not included, and you file on the CRA or Revenu Quebec portal yourself. If those fit, Solo costs CAD 25 per month before tax, or CAD 250 for 12 months on annual billing, with an upgrade to Core for 5 users at any time and unused time credited.

Start your free first month of Solo: 30 days, every module, your own data, no card. Until 31 January 2027 the launch offer gives 50% off the first 3 paid months on monthly billing, or 15 months for the annual price.

Can Skyline Nexus ERP file my GST/HST return with the CRA?

No. Skyline Nexus ERP gives you a tax report and a prefilled return form with the tax-exclusive sales and purchase bases and the tax collected and paid for the period, on the same basis as the ledger's tax accounts. You or your accountant then enter those figures on the CRA or Revenu Quebec portal. QuickBooks describes its sales tax as tracked so you can file with the CRA; if that matters most to you, it is a reason to stay.
