Doing business in Bengaluru

Bengaluru has several economies in one city. Software and product firms fill Electronic City, Whitefield and the Outer Ring Road; shoppers crowd Commercial Street, Brigade Road and Jayanagar 4th Block; electronics traders line SP Road; and the old city around Chickpet, Avenue Road and KR Market still moves textiles, hardware, flowers and vegetables. North-west, Peenya Industrial Area houses machine shops and fabricators.

A new Bengaluru outlet usually needs a GST registration with the State administration, a municipal trade licence for the premises, and, for a company, incorporation with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Owners then juggle a counter, a supplier list, credit to regular buyers and an accountant who wants clean books, often from three or four separate tools that never agree.

Modules Bengaluru businesses start with

Startups and tech firms in Bengaluru

A Bengaluru start-up in Koramangala or HSR Layout bills clients, pays vendors and cloud bills, and must show founders and investors a profit and loss and balance sheet whenever asked. A hardware start-up also buys components, assembles boards and holds stock. Many begin with a spreadsheet and a billing app and outgrow both once the first audit arrives.

Skyline Nexus ERP gives such a firm projects with tasks, milestones and budgets, CRM leads, follow-ups and proposals, purchases and expenses that post to the ledger, and receivable and payable ageing. Hardware teams add manufacturing work orders and bills of material. The Audit Pack exports trial balance, balance sheet, profit and loss, journals and ledgers for a calendar year into one Excel workbook.

Retail stores across Bengaluru

Retailers in Bengaluru rarely stop at one shop. A footwear store on Commercial Street opens a second outlet in Indiranagar, a grocery adds Whitefield, a mobile shop on SP Road supplies dealers in Hosur Road. Each outlet needs its own bill series and cash drawer, and stock keeps moving between them on weekends.

Skyline Nexus ERP handles this with multi-branch POS: cash registers per outlet, a separate invoice numbering scheme, layout and payment methods per location, stock held per location and transfers between stores. A cashier in Indiranagar can be limited to that outlet. Restaurant and kitchen features and weighing-scale integration cover Bengaluru cafes, darshinis and sweet shops that sell by weight.

From POS to balance sheet in a Bengaluru store

Take a Chickpet textile wholesaler who also runs a retail counter in Jayanagar. Typical billing apps print GST bills and track bales, while the books are often kept by the accountant in another package, so the trial balance is rebuilt at month or year end. Credit-book apps track which retailer owes what, but not stock or mill purchases. Separate accounting packages keep sound books, yet the counter's sales are exported or typed in twice.

When Auto-post Sales Transactions is switched on, Skyline Nexus ERP posts each final POS bill as a balanced journal to sales, output tax, cost of goods and inventory soon after saving. The Bengaluru owner sees a current trial balance, profit and loss and balance sheet, by location or for both shops together. Mill purchases, payments and expenses post the same way. Some other providers are ahead today on offline billing, which Skyline Nexus does not support.

India tax integration

Taxes and compliance in India

Karnataka has GST State code 29: every GSTIN registered in Karnataka starts with 29. Sales inside Karnataka carry CGST + SGST; sales to another State carry IGST. A branch in another State needs its own GSTIN and the right place of supply on each invoice: in Skyline Nexus ERP you choose the intra-State or inter-State tax group on the sale.

Built in today

  • GST rates in force since 22 September 2025 (5%, 18%, 40%; 0.25%, 1.5% and 3% for stones and jewellery) and older rates for past periods; a cess as an extra component of a tax group.

  • Tax groups combining CGST + SGST (or UTGST) into one rate, plus IGST rates, set per product and chosen per sale.

  • Prices entered tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive per product; the POS works out the tax either way.

  • Your GSTIN as the business tax number and the customer's GSTIN on the contact record, both printed on invoices.

  • An HSN column on invoices from the product category code, an editable invoice heading (for example "Tax Invoice" or "Bill of Supply") and a receipt design that prints each tax component in its own column.

  • Credit notes for sales returns, debit notes for sales and purchases, and purchase returns.

  • With auto-posting on, every final sale, return, purchase and expense posts output or input tax to its own ledger account, matching the tax report.

  • Branches with their own invoice numbering and invoice layout; a branch's own GSTIN can be printed on its invoices from a location field.

Ready for your accountant

  • Tax report: input tax on purchases, output tax on sales and tax on expenses for any period, branch or contact.

  • Trial balance, general ledger and day book with the input and output tax accounts, exported to Excel or PDF.

  • Audit Pack: one Excel workbook with trial balance, balance sheet, P&L, journals, sales, purchases and a ledger tax summary.

  • Sales and purchase lists your chartered accountant can use to prepare GST returns. Skyline Nexus ERP does not file returns itself.

Coming or on request (not live today)

  • Automatic CGST + SGST or IGST from the place of supply.

  • HSN and SAC codes per item with validation, and separate B2B, B2C and export invoice types.

  • GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B style summaries and input tax credit matching: ask us.

  • E-invoicing through the Invoice Registration Portal (IRN and signed QR): the India connector is built but not live. Ask us for your go-live date.

  • E-way bills and direct filing on the GST portal.

  • Reverse-charge marking for India, TDS and TCS.

  • Indian payroll items (PF, ESI, professional tax) are not offered: payroll in Skyline Nexus ERP is built for Saudi Arabia.

GST for a Bengaluru business

A Bengaluru GSTIN starts with 29, the Karnataka State code. Selling from Bengaluru to a buyer in Mysuru or Tumakuru means CGST plus SGST at half the rate each; shipping to Hosur or Chennai across the border means IGST. Registration is due above INR 20 lakh aggregate turnover, or INR 40 lakh for goods-only suppliers, except ice cream, pan masala and tobacco.

A Bengaluru supplier above INR 5 crore aggregate turnover must report B2B invoices to the IRP for an IRN, which Skyline Nexus ERP does not do yet. In Skyline Nexus you define groups like CGST 9% + SGST 9% and IGST 18%, choose the intra-State or inter-State group per bill, and print HSN from the category code. E-way bills and GSTR filing are not available yet.

Getting started from Bengaluru

Bengaluru businesses start by pressing Join the waitlist on this page, or Book a demo, or Ask on WhatsApp. Before the demo, collect the item master with opening stock per outlet, customers and suppliers with GSTIN and opening balances, the chart of accounts your accountant uses, and the list of outlets and godowns that should become branches.

The account is configured for an April-to-March financial year, Indian rupees, dd-mm-yyyy dates and invoice totals spelled out in lakh and crore. Items, stock and contacts load from CSV files, and Skyline Nexus ERP keeps them per location. Help is given by WhatsApp, phone and e-mail; there is no Skyline office in India, so meetings happen online.

  1. Set up each Bengaluru outlet, from Commercial Street to Whitefield, as a location.
  2. Import the item master and opening stock for every outlet and godown.
  3. Add wholesale buyers and suppliers with GSTIN and opening balances.
  4. Turn on auto-posting and check the day book after the first weekend.

Questions from Bengaluru businesses

What GST code does a Bengaluru business use?

Every GSTIN registered in Bengaluru starts with 29, the State code of Karnataka. Skyline Nexus ERP keeps the tax number of the business and of each contact, so a Bengaluru seller can tell from the buyer's GSTIN whether to bill CGST plus SGST inside Karnataka or IGST to another State. The choice of tax group is made by the user.

Does a small Bengaluru shop need GST registration?

A Bengaluru shop must register once aggregate turnover passes INR 20 lakh in a financial year, or INR 40 lakh if it supplies only goods, except ice cream, pan masala and tobacco. Some suppliers must register regardless. Skyline Nexus ERP can run a shop below the threshold as well, with tax groups added later once the GSTIN is issued.

Can a Bengaluru cafe or darshini use Skyline Nexus ERP?

Skyline Nexus ERP includes restaurant and kitchen features in its POS, along with cash registers and stock for ingredients. A Bengaluru cafe can bill at the counter, keep each outlet's stock separately and see food costs in the ledger once auto-posting is on. A connection is needed, since offline billing is not supported.

Is Skyline Nexus ERP suitable for a Peenya engineering unit?

Skyline Nexus ERP has manufacturing with work orders, bills of material and routings, and FIFO or LIFO costing that feeds cost of goods. A Peenya unit can buy steel, issue it to a work order, sell finished parts and see the result in its Bengaluru books. Payroll for India is not included, so wages stay in a separate tool.

How is Skyline Nexus ERP different from a billing app for a Bengaluru shop?

A typical billing app prints the bill and counts stock, and the accountant rebuilds the books later. Skyline Nexus ERP, once auto-posting is switched on, turns each final sale into a balanced journal, so a Bengaluru shop sees its trial balance and balance sheet without a rebuild. Billing apps are ahead today on e-way bills and GSTR filing, which Skyline Nexus does not offer yet.

Which languages and currency does Skyline Nexus ERP offer in Bengaluru?

Skyline Nexus ERP uses an English interface and offers a Hindi interface translation; Bengaluru teams who want Kannada should ask in the demo. The currency is INR, dates can be dd-mm-yyyy or dd/mm/yyyy, and invoices can print the total in words in lakh and crore.

How long does it take a Bengaluru business to move to Skyline Nexus ERP?

No fixed timeline is promised, because Indian onboarding of Skyline Nexus ERP is by waitlist and demo. A Bengaluru business that has its item list, opening stock, contacts with GSTIN and balances and chart of accounts ready in CSV files can import them by CSV, then test a few days of sales with auto-posting before going live.

Skyline Nexus ERP is a cloud service run by Skyline Industrial Solution. We have no office in Bengaluru; support is by WhatsApp, phone and e-mail.
