India
Indian shops and distributors usually choose between four kinds of software: billing apps, credit-book apps, separate accounting packages and combined POS plus ERP systems.
This guide compares the categories without naming products, shows step by step how one GST sale reaches the balance sheet in Skyline Nexus ERP, and lists where other tools are ahead today.
Plans from $19 per month, plus VAT where it applies · Prices shown in USD; we do not publish a price list for India yet.
Skyline Nexus ERP cannot yet meet the e-invoicing rules that apply to your business in India. Leave your details and we will contact you when it can.

Typical billing apps are built around the counter: they print a GST bill, keep a stock count and often show a daily sales summary. The books are often kept elsewhere, in an accountant's package or a spreadsheet, so the trial balance is rebuilt at month or year end. Ledger-only or credit-book apps solve a different problem: they record who owes what, the familiar udhaar or khata, but not stock, purchases or a full double-entry ledger.
Separate accounting packages keep strong books and are familiar to many chartered accountants, but sales data from the counter is exported or re-keyed into them. A combined POS plus ERP system such as Skyline Nexus ERP puts the counter, stock, purchases and the general ledger in one database, so a sale, the stock it consumes and the journal it creates are one record rather than three copies kept in step by hand.
Each category earns its place. Billing apps are quick to learn and many run on a phone or a small counter PC, which suits a single outlet that mainly needs clean bills. Credit-book apps make it easy to send payment reminders to regular customers. Separate accounting packages offer deep GST return work and a workflow chartered accountants know well, which is why many firms keep one even when the shop uses a simpler billing tool.
Skyline Nexus ERP is aimed at the business that has outgrown that split: several outlets or godowns, purchases on credit, stock that must be costed properly and an owner who wants profit by branch without waiting for the accountant. Skyline Nexus also brings CRM, projects, MES manufacturing and CMMS maintenance into the same system, depending on the package. A one-counter shop with simple needs may be well served by a billing app.
Take a shop in Pune that sells one item at 18% GST to a walk-in customer inside Maharashtra. In Skyline Nexus ERP the administrator has switched on Auto-post Sales Transactions, created a tax group of CGST 9% plus SGST 9%, given the item a category and chosen FIFO costing. The cashier finalises the sale at the POS and takes cash; a draft or a quotation would not post anything.
Right after the sale is saved, Skyline Nexus posts a balanced journal in the background. Cash clearing is debited with the full amount including tax, sales for the item's category are credited with the net amount, and output tax is credited with the GST. A second pair of lines debits cost of goods sold and credits inventory at the cost of the oldest lot on hand. Debits equal credits, so the books stay balanced.
Because the journal posts at once, the Trial Balance in Skyline Nexus ERP already shows higher cash, higher sales, higher output tax payable, higher cost of goods and lower inventory. The Income Statement shows the margin on that sale, and the Balance Sheet moves by the same amounts, with a warning if it ever does not balance. Each report can be filtered for the Pune branch or shown for all locations together.
Purchases, purchase returns, payments and expenses post the same way, so month end becomes a review rather than a rebuild. The Data Verification report compares the trial balance, ledger entries and POS transactions, periods can be closed and locked, and the Audit Pack exports the year's trial balance, ledgers, sales, purchases and ageing to one Excel workbook for the chartered accountant. With separate billing and accounting tools, the same picture often appears only after the sales data is moved across.
India tax integration
Every State and union territory has its own two-digit GST State code, and every GSTIN starts with it. A sale inside a State carries CGST + SGST (CGST + UTGST in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Ladakh and Chandigarh); a sale between States carries IGST. A business needs a GSTIN in each State where it has a place of business. In Skyline Nexus ERP you set up the tax groups and choose the intra-State or inter-State group on the sale.
GST rates in force since 22 September 2025 (5%, 18%, 40%; 0.25%, 1.5% and 3% for stones and jewellery) and older rates for past periods; a cess as an extra component of a tax group.
Tax groups combining CGST + SGST (or UTGST) into one rate, plus IGST rates, set per product and chosen per sale.
Prices entered tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive per product; the POS works out the tax either way.
Your GSTIN as the business tax number and the customer's GSTIN on the contact record, both printed on invoices.
An HSN column on invoices from the product category code, an editable invoice heading (for example "Tax Invoice" or "Bill of Supply") and a receipt design that prints each tax component in its own column.
Credit notes for sales returns, debit notes for sales and purchases, and purchase returns.
With auto-posting on, every final sale, return, purchase and expense posts output or input tax to its own ledger account, matching the tax report.
Branches with their own invoice numbering and invoice layout; a branch's own GSTIN can be printed on its invoices from a location field.
Tax report: input tax on purchases, output tax on sales and tax on expenses for any period, branch or contact.
Trial balance, general ledger and day book with the input and output tax accounts, exported to Excel or PDF.
Audit Pack: one Excel workbook with trial balance, balance sheet, P&L, journals, sales, purchases and a ledger tax summary.
Sales and purchase lists your chartered accountant can use to prepare GST returns. Skyline Nexus ERP does not file returns itself.
Automatic CGST + SGST or IGST from the place of supply.
HSN and SAC codes per item with validation, and separate B2B, B2C and export invoice types.
GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B style summaries and input tax credit matching: ask us.

Fairness means saying where Skyline Nexus ERP falls short for India right now. Suppliers above INR 5 crore aggregate turnover must obtain an IRN from the IRP for B2B invoices, and Skyline Nexus does not do this yet, while some billing apps and accounting packages already do. E-way bills for goods over INR 50,000 are not generated in Skyline Nexus, and GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B are not prepared or filed from it.
Several more gaps are worth knowing before a demo. Skyline Nexus ERP does not work offline, because the POS needs an internet connection, whereas some billing apps keep billing during an outage. Place of supply does not switch CGST plus SGST to IGST automatically; staff choose the tax group. HSN comes from the category code without validation, figures use standard thousands grouping rather than lakh grouping, and Indian payroll and TDS handling are not offered.
Whichever provider you consider, ask to see one real transaction travel end to end: a counter sale, a credit purchase and a supplier payment, then the trial balance and balance sheet straight afterwards. Ask which GST tasks happen inside the software and which still go to your accountant, and whether branch reports keep each GSTIN apart. Skyline Nexus ERP will show you exactly that flow in a demo.
Onboarding for Skyline Nexus in India currently runs through the India waitlist and a demo: use Join the waitlist, Book a demo or Ask on WhatsApp on this page. Support is by WhatsApp, phone and e-mail, with no office in India. Bring your item list, opening stock, customer and supplier balances with GSTINs and chart of accounts; all of them can be imported from CSV files.
A typical billing app prints GST bills and keeps stock counts, and the books are often kept separately by an accountant. An ERP such as Skyline Nexus ERP keeps sales, stock, purchases and the double-entry ledger in one system, so each final sale updates the trial balance, profit and loss account and balance sheet without a later export or re-entry of the sales figures.
Skyline Nexus ERP records customer balances as receivables in the ledger, with opening balances importable from CSV and receivable ageing reports showing who owes what and for how long. Where a credit-book app mainly tracks dues, Skyline Nexus also keeps the stock, purchases and journals behind each sale. Shops that rely on reminder messages from a khata app should check that workflow in a demo.
Skyline Nexus ERP posts the journal right after each final sale is saved, as a background job, once an administrator has switched on Auto-post Sales Transactions in the accounting settings. Drafts and quotations do not post. Purchases, payments and expenses follow the same rule, so the trial balance and balance sheet reflect the day's trading rather than waiting for a month-end import.
No. Skyline Nexus ERP does not prepare or file GSTR returns today, so returns stay with your chartered accountant or your existing filing routine. What Skyline Nexus provides is clean, balanced books and an Audit Pack workbook with sales, purchases, journals and ledgers that an accountant can work from. GST return support is on the roadmap for India, and the waitlist is the way to hear when it changes.
A single outlet with cash sales, a short item list and an accountant who already keeps the books may find a billing app enough, and a billing app that already issues IRNs or works without internet may suit it better today. Skyline Nexus ERP fits better once a business runs several outlets or godowns, buys on credit and wants branch-wise profit and a current balance sheet.
Skyline Nexus ERP uses an English interface, with a Hindi interface translation available for counter staff. The business currency can be INR, the date format dd-mm-yyyy and the financial year can start in April. Invoices can print the amount in words in lakh and crore, although the figures themselves use standard thousands separators.
Skyline Nexus ERP is opening to Indian businesses through the India waitlist and a live demo. Join the waitlist or book a demo on this page, or ask on WhatsApp first. In the demo, ask to follow one counter sale into the trial balance, and bring a sample of your item list and customer balances so the import can be shown with your own data.
