Doing business in Surat

Surat earns its living from two trades. The textile markets along Ring Road sell man-made fibre fabric, sarees and dress material to retailers across India, fed by power looms, embroidery machines and dyeing and printing houses in Sachin and Pandesara GIDC. In Varachha and Mahidharpura, diamond workshops cut and polish stones and trading offices buy and sell them. Hazira adds heavy industry and port traffic.

Most Surat firms are family businesses with a shop, a godown and one or more job workers. Registration means a GSTIN under Gujarat code 24, and the Surat Municipal Corporation handles Shops and Establishments certificates and Professional Tax enrolment online. The admin pain is tracking fabric that moves between weaver, dyer, embroiderer and shop before anyone is paid.

Modules Surat businesses start with

Ring Road textile wholesale

A Ring Road wholesaler buys grey or finished fabric by the taka, sends it for printing or embroidery, then sells sarees by the set to retailers in Kolkata, Hyderabad or Jaipur through agents who take commission. Payment terms of sixty to ninety days are normal, returns come back after the season, and the same design sells at different rates to different buyers.

Skyline Nexus ERP records each design as a product with opening stock per shop and godown, so a Surat trader sees what is on the shelf and what sits with a job worker as a separate location. Customers carry GSTIN, credit terms and opening balances, and receivable ageing shows which retailer is late. Purchase returns and sales returns post journals once auto-posting is on.

Weaving, processing and diamond units

In Sachin and Pandesara, a weaving unit turns yarn into grey fabric on rapier or water-jet looms, a processing house dyes and prints it, and both bill by the metre. A Varachha diamond workshop takes rough stones, cuts and polishes them and returns or sells them by the carat. Yield and wastage decide profit in both Surat trades.

Skyline Nexus ERP covers this with manufacturing work orders, bills of materials and routings, so yarn or rough input is booked against output. FIFO or LIFO costing feeds cost of goods sold, and cost centres separate looms from processing. Stock moves between Surat locations by transfer, which does not post to the ledger, so margins come from purchases and sales.

From POS to balance sheet for a Surat textile trader

Think of a Surat saree trader with a Ring Road shop, a godown and three job workers. Typical billing apps print the GST bill and keep a stock count, while the books often stay with an accountant in another package or a spreadsheet, so the trial balance is rebuilt at month or year end. Credit-book apps keep the khata of retailer dues, but not stock, purchases or a full ledger.

A separate accounting package keeps sound books, yet bills from the shop are exported or re-keyed. In Skyline Nexus ERP, once Auto-post Sales Transactions is switched on, each final sale posts sales, output tax, cost of goods and inventory together, and purchases and payments do the same, so the Surat trader sees a current balance sheet by branch. Other tools are ahead today on e-way bills, which Skyline Nexus cannot raise yet.

India tax integration

Taxes and compliance in India

Gujarat has GST State code 24: every GSTIN registered in Gujarat starts with 24. Sales inside Gujarat carry CGST + SGST; sales to another State carry IGST. A branch in another State needs its own GSTIN and the right place of supply on each invoice: in Skyline Nexus ERP you choose the intra-State or inter-State tax group on the sale.

Built in today

  • GST rates in force since 22 September 2025 (5%, 18%, 40%; 0.25%, 1.5% and 3% for stones and jewellery) and older rates for past periods; a cess as an extra component of a tax group.

  • Tax groups combining CGST + SGST (or UTGST) into one rate, plus IGST rates, set per product and chosen per sale.

  • Prices entered tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive per product; the POS works out the tax either way.

  • Your GSTIN as the business tax number and the customer's GSTIN on the contact record, both printed on invoices.

  • An HSN column on invoices from the product category code, an editable invoice heading (for example "Tax Invoice" or "Bill of Supply") and a receipt design that prints each tax component in its own column.

  • Credit notes for sales returns, debit notes for sales and purchases, and purchase returns.

  • With auto-posting on, every final sale, return, purchase and expense posts output or input tax to its own ledger account, matching the tax report.

  • Branches with their own invoice numbering and invoice layout; a branch's own GSTIN can be printed on its invoices from a location field.

Ready for your accountant

  • Tax report: input tax on purchases, output tax on sales and tax on expenses for any period, branch or contact.

  • Trial balance, general ledger and day book with the input and output tax accounts, exported to Excel or PDF.

  • Audit Pack: one Excel workbook with trial balance, balance sheet, P&L, journals, sales, purchases and a ledger tax summary.

  • Sales and purchase lists your chartered accountant can use to prepare GST returns. Skyline Nexus ERP does not file returns itself.

Coming or on request (not live today)

  • Automatic CGST + SGST or IGST from the place of supply.

  • HSN and SAC codes per item with validation, and separate B2B, B2C and export invoice types.

  • GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B style summaries and input tax credit matching: ask us.

  • E-invoicing through the Invoice Registration Portal (IRN and signed QR): the India connector is built but not live. Ask us for your go-live date.

  • E-way bills and direct filing on the GST portal.

  • Reverse-charge marking for India, TDS and TCS.

  • Indian payroll items (PF, ESI, professional tax) are not offered: payroll in Skyline Nexus ERP is built for Saudi Arabia.

GST for a Surat business

A Surat GSTIN starts with 24. A sale from Ring Road to a retailer in Navsari or Bharuch carries CGST plus SGST at half the rate each, while bales sent to Kolkata or Jaipur carry IGST at the full rate. Registration is due above INR 20 lakh turnover; goods-only suppliers may use INR 40 lakh, except ice cream, pan masala and tobacco.

Surat traders above INR 5 crore aggregate turnover must obtain an IRN for B2B invoices, which Skyline Nexus ERP does not do yet. In Skyline Nexus you set up tax groups, for example a 5% rate split into equal CGST and SGST halves or IGST 5%, pick the group on each bill, and print HSN from the category code. Goods moving above INR 50,000 need an e-way bill, raised outside Skyline Nexus for now.

Getting started from Surat

A Surat firm joins through the India waitlist on this page, a demo or a WhatsApp message. Before setup, list each design or quality with opening stock per shop, godown and job worker, retailers, agents and mills with GSTIN and balances, the chart of accounts, and which sites should be locations.

Skyline Nexus ERP uses an April financial year, INR, dd-mm-yyyy dates and invoice totals in words in lakh and crore. Products, stock and contacts load by CSV import. Support is by WhatsApp, phone and e-mail, and Skyline has no office in India, so Surat customers work with the team remotely.

  1. Create the Ring Road shop, the godown and each job worker as Surat locations.
  2. Import sarees or fabric qualities with opening stock per location.
  3. Load retailers and agents with GSTIN, credit days and opening balances.
  4. Switch on auto-posting and review the trial balance for the shop after a week.

Questions from Surat businesses

What GST State code does a Surat business use?

A Surat business is registered in Gujarat, so its GSTIN begins with State code 24. Sales within Gujarat carry CGST plus SGST and sales to retailers in other States carry IGST. Skyline Nexus ERP keeps both tax groups, and the user picks the right one on each invoice.

Can a Surat textile trader below INR 5 crore turnover use Skyline Nexus ERP for B2B bills?

A Surat textile trader below INR 5 crore aggregate turnover is not required to obtain an IRN, so Skyline Nexus ERP can print the invoice with the trader's own tax groups and an HSN column from the category code. Above that turnover the IRN must come from elsewhere, because Skyline Nexus does not support it yet.

Can Skyline Nexus ERP track fabric sent to job workers in Surat?

Skyline Nexus ERP can treat each job worker as a stock location, so fabric sent for dyeing or embroidery shows separately from the shop and godown. Transfers move the quantity between Surat locations but do not post to the ledger, and the finished goods return the same way.

Does Skyline Nexus ERP fit a diamond workshop in Varachha?

Skyline Nexus ERP offers work orders, bills of materials and routings, so a Varachha workshop can book rough input against polished output. FIFO or LIFO costing sets cost of goods sold. A Surat diamond firm should check its specific needs in a demo before joining.

How is Skyline Nexus ERP different from a billing app for a Surat shop?

Billing apps often print GST bills and count stock while the books sit elsewhere. Skyline Nexus ERP, with auto-posting switched on, posts each final sale as a balanced journal, so a Surat shop sees profit and the balance sheet without re-keying. Some billing apps are ahead on IRN e-invoicing, which Skyline Nexus does not offer yet.

Is Skyline Nexus ERP available in Hindi and INR?

Skyline Nexus ERP has an English interface and a Hindi interface translation. INR is an available business currency, dates can be dd-mm-yyyy, and invoice totals can be written in words in lakh and crore. The ledger keeps a single base currency.

How does a Surat business get started with Skyline Nexus ERP?

A Surat business joins the India waitlist on this page, books a demo or asks on WhatsApp. It should prepare designs with opening stock, customers and agents with GSTIN and balances, a chart of accounts and its locations, which Skyline Nexus ERP imports by CSV.

Skyline Nexus ERP is a cloud service run by Skyline Industrial Solution. We have no office in Surat; support is by WhatsApp, phone and e-mail.
