Madurai at a glance
Madurai's economy turns around the Meenakshi Amman Temple. Pilgrims fill the lodges, mess halls and sweet shops in the Masi, Avani Moola and Chithirai streets, and the same lanes sell silk, Sungudi sarees, brass and jewellery. A short ride away, Mattuthavani handles the jasmine and flower trade, and the Kappalur and K. Pudur industrial estates host small engineering and plastics units.
A Madurai shop or hotel takes its trade licence from the Madurai Corporation, while the district administration handles wider permissions and Guidance Tamil Nadu speaks to larger investors. Most businesses here are family firms with two or three outlets and heavy festival peaks, especially during Chithirai, when the books fall behind the till for weeks.
A Madurai hotel near the temple may run rooms, a vegetarian restaurant and a parcel counter under one name. During festival weeks the kitchen buys rice, ghee and vegetables daily, often on credit, and the owner needs to know what each outlet sold and consumed before the next day's purchase.
Skyline Nexus ERP offers restaurant point of sale with kitchen features and cash registers per counter, and treats the restaurant and parcel counter as separate locations if you wish. Ingredients bought from Madurai suppliers are recorded as purchases, stock is valued by FIFO or LIFO, and each outlet's sales can be read in a branch-filtered P&L.
Madurai wholesalers deal in flowers, grain, provisions and textiles, selling to retailers across the southern districts on credit. Jasmine prices change by the hour, while a saree wholesaler holds stock for months. Both need to know who owes money, which supplier is due, and what is left in the godown.
Skyline Nexus ERP records each wholesale invoice against a customer account, with receivable and payable ageing showing which Madurai retailer or supplier is overdue. Stock is kept per location with FIFO or LIFO costing, and a weighing scale can be connected at the counter for goods sold by weight. Follow-ups with regular buyers can sit in the CRM module.
Think of a Madurai sweet shop with a counter in the temple streets and a second outlet near the bus stand. Typical billing apps print bills and count boxes, yet the books are often kept by an auditor in a different package, so the trial balance appears only at year end. Credit-book apps note which caterer owes what, but not ingredients, purchases or a double-entry ledger.
Separate accounting packages keep proper books, though sales from both counters are re-entered. In Skyline Nexus ERP, once Auto-post Sales Transactions is switched on, every final sale posts a balanced journal for sales, output tax, cost of goods and inventory, and purchases of sugar and ghee, payments and expenses post the same way.
India tax integration
Tamil Nadu has GST State code 33: every GSTIN registered in Tamil Nadu starts with 33. Sales inside Tamil Nadu carry CGST + SGST; sales to another State carry IGST. A branch in another State needs its own GSTIN and the right place of supply on each invoice: in Skyline Nexus ERP you choose the intra-State or inter-State tax group on the sale.
GST rates in force since 22 September 2025 (5%, 18%, 40%; 0.25%, 1.5% and 3% for stones and jewellery) and older rates for past periods; a cess as an extra component of a tax group.
Tax groups combining CGST + SGST (or UTGST) into one rate, plus IGST rates, set per product and chosen per sale.
Prices entered tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive per product; the POS works out the tax either way.
Your GSTIN as the business tax number and the customer's GSTIN on the contact record, both printed on invoices.
An HSN column on invoices from the product category code, an editable invoice heading (for example "Tax Invoice" or "Bill of Supply") and a receipt design that prints each tax component in its own column.
Credit notes for sales returns, debit notes for sales and purchases, and purchase returns.
With auto-posting on, every final sale, return, purchase and expense posts output or input tax to its own ledger account, matching the tax report.
Branches with their own invoice numbering and invoice layout; a branch's own GSTIN can be printed on its invoices from a location field.
Tax report: input tax on purchases, output tax on sales and tax on expenses for any period, branch or contact.
Trial balance, general ledger and day book with the input and output tax accounts, exported to Excel or PDF.
Audit Pack: one Excel workbook with trial balance, balance sheet, P&L, journals, sales, purchases and a ledger tax summary.
Sales and purchase lists your chartered accountant can use to prepare GST returns. Skyline Nexus ERP does not file returns itself.
Automatic CGST + SGST or IGST from the place of supply.
HSN and SAC codes per item with validation, and separate B2B, B2C and export invoice types.
GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B style summaries and input tax credit matching: ask us.

As a Tamil Nadu city, Madurai issues GSTINs beginning with 33. A wholesaler selling to a retailer in Dindigul or Virudhunagar charges CGST plus SGST, each at half the rate; one shipping to Kerala charges IGST. Registration is required above INR 20 lakh, and suppliers of goods only may use INR 40 lakh, except for ice cream, pan masala and tobacco, which matters for sweet and snack sellers.
Skyline Nexus ERP stores GST as tax groups that you build, for example CGST 9% plus SGST 9% or IGST 18%, and you pick the group on each sale; an HSN column can come from the category code. A Madurai supplier above INR 5 crore turnover needs an IRN, which Skyline Nexus does not issue yet, and GSTR returns are not prepared in the system either.
Skyline Nexus ERP onboards Indian businesses through the India waitlist and a demo; the buttons on this page say Join the waitlist, Book a demo and Ask on WhatsApp. A Madurai hotel or wholesaler should prepare its menu or product list with opening stock as CSV, customers and suppliers with GSTIN and balances, and its chart of accounts.
Because festival peaks in Madurai rarely line up with the calendar year, Skyline Nexus is configured for an April financial year and can close monthly or quarterly periods, with INR, dd-mm-yyyy dates and amounts in words in lakh and crore. Support is by WhatsApp, phone and e-mail, with no office in Madurai or anywhere in India.
Skyline Nexus ERP includes restaurant point of sale with kitchen features and separate cash registers. A Madurai hotel can run its dining hall and parcel counter as separate counters or locations, record daily ingredient purchases and read each outlet's sales in a branch-filtered P&L.
Skyline Nexus ERP records credit sales and purchases with ageing reports, and a weighing scale can be integrated at the point of sale. A Madurai wholesaler at Mattuthavani can see which retailer owes money, which supplier is due and what stock remains, all posted to the same ledger.
Most Madurai shops supplying goods only may use the INR 40 lakh registration threshold. Sellers of ice cream, pan masala or tobacco are excluded and stay at INR 20 lakh, so a sweet shop that also sells ice cream should check carefully. Skyline Nexus ERP records the GSTIN once registered but does not make this decision.
Every Madurai GSTIN starts with 33, the Tamil Nadu code. Sales within Tamil Nadu carry CGST plus SGST at half the rate each, and sales to other States carry IGST. Skyline Nexus ERP lets the user set up both tax groups and choose one per invoice; it does not switch them automatically.
A billing app for a Madurai shop usually prints bills and keeps stock counts, with accounts often handled separately by an auditor. Skyline Nexus ERP posts each final sale as a balanced journal once auto-posting is on, so trial balance and balance sheet stay current. Some other providers already offer IRN e-invoicing, which Skyline Nexus does not offer yet.
Skyline Nexus ERP works in English and has a Hindi interface translation among many languages, which helps pilgrims' guides and staff from other States at a Madurai hotel. Madurai businesses use INR, dd-mm-yyyy dates and invoice amounts in words in lakh and crore. A Tamil interface is not claimed here.
A Madurai business joins the India waitlist on this page or books a demo, since Indian onboarding is by invitation for now. Products, opening stock, contacts and the chart of accounts are imported from CSV files, and the financial year is set to begin in April.
Skyline Nexus ERP is a cloud service run by Skyline Industrial Solution. We have no office in Madurai; support is by WhatsApp, phone and e-mail.
